Anne and I are so excited! Our middle-grade transgender romance has been picked up by Harmony Ink Press!
We put so much time and love into this book. As you probably know, Anne and I are both lesbians. Anne has a trans son, and I mentor queer youth all over the spectrum so we’re drawing from our own real experience in this one. Plus, Anne was raised in Texas and I was raised in New Jersey and that’s where the main characters are from too!
It’s going to be a long while before it’s published, probably mid-late spring 2019. But we’ll keep you updated on our progress, show the cover as soon as we have it, that kind of thing. In the meantime, here’s a quick blurb to get you interested!
We titled it Sparkles, but that title will be changing. 😉
Eli Green transitioned the summer before freshman year. His parents bought him his first chest binder and his first pack of boy’s underwear, and he’s stoked to finally have the outside match the boy he knows he is inside. But even at a fairly liberal New Jersey high school, freshman year is pretty rough. His family moves a town over, and he transfers to a new school where no one has ever known him as Elizabeth.
Samantha Moore knows just who she is, too. Varsity cheer, advanced math, one of the bright and beautiful in her central Texas high school. But when her momma dies, the world as she knows it dies right along with it. Suddenly she’s living in New Jersey with a father she barely knows, in a world that couldn’t be more further from anything she understands.
Eli is still learning how to live as a boy and a son, and now he has to out himself to be fair to Sammy, who sparkles brighter than the bling on her jeans. Eli wants to date her but he has to find out if he can trust her first. Sammy’s still grieving, the boy she wants to date is trans and she isn’t sure she gets that, her family has secrets — all of it seems like too much for her to accept. Together, she and Eli have to work to find their most authentic selves, even in the midst of chaos.
